DIVING
INFORMATION FOR NEW DIVERS
It is High School Diving Time, each high school participant should be registered
in High School Athletics and as part of that process, filled out the necessary
medical forms and papers to represent the High School.
For Divers not practicing with their Swim teams,
pay attention to the following reminders:
You cannot wear a Club team suit at a high school meet. You can wear any suit
as long as it does not designate a club team. This is your chance to buy and
wear your school suit to represent your high school. Remind the coach to get
your order if you are not on deck with the swim team each day. No Jewelry
is permitted during competition.
During all Club meets from Feb 15 until after May 15, divers must register UNATTACHED while diving High school. The only exception is National Meets such as the Winter National Regional, Winter National Championships and Spring US Senior Zones and US Nationals. At a National Meet, CIF allows both swimmers and divers to register with their club team.
ACTIVITIES TO WATCH FOR:
Officially as a member of the swim team, there will be certain activities the
team takes part in that you will need to find out about on your own if you are
not working out with the team everyday.
1) Deadlines for team registration/medical forms and ASB/Student activity cards. (Usually before Feb 14 for Saddleback District.)
2) Team suit orders...don't wait until you see the swim team wearing their
new suits to ask if you can order one.
3) Team Pictures: Ask your yearbook staff if they want to take pictures of you
diving or if they would like you to submit diving pictures. (Remember no Club
suits)
4) School Video Yearbook: Ask the person in charge who you should submit diving
videos to. Be creative have someone get some fun shots on video. Try taking
footage from the tower if you have one...or from under the 3 meter.
5) Swim & DIVE banquet: Don't take it personally, but out of site...out of mind! YOU MANY NEED TO Remind your coach that you and your parents are looking forward to the Banquet, getting your letter or at least being recognized by your coach and the swim team. If you are the only diver on the team...they may forget about you...The Swim team parents probably organize the banquet and they have never seen you. BE VISIBLE...ask for the date and be sure you make your reservation.
6) IF you are the loan representative of your diving team and your official school rep is not the Swim Coach, YOU or YOUR parents may need to be the one to head the SPIRIT COMMITTEE for your personal team. Be sure you get a copy of the results, or at least your placement at each meet and then FAX to the school office or FILL OUT the morning announcement forms letting the school know of your accomplishments. On the bigger teams, there is sometimes a booster parent or the coach that makes sure the announcement get made each day to wish good luck to the competitors or to congratulate them on a job well done.
7) The best way to handle the loan diver/practicing at a private facility situation is to determine who at the school is officially responsible for you. (VARSITY SWIM COACH in most situations) and then report to that coach at least once a week to check in. This is the time to make sure you are aware of dates and activities, work out dates you will be competing and the appropriate supervision for that meet.
8) IT WILL BE YOUR RESPONSIBILITY TO GET YOUR QUALIFYING SHEETS TO YOUR SWIM COACH FOR CIF TURN IN. Your qualifying dive sheet, signed cards and your Dive sheet for the CIF finals need to be turned in by YOU to YOUR SWIM COACH so he can turn them in to CIF the day after your league meet.
HAVE FUN...learn the high school diving list and the rules by downloading the
HIGH SCHOOL DIVE VERIFIER PROGRAM.
Turn in each of your sheets using this program and you will have extra time
for warm-ups as other divers who don't waist their warm-up time figuring out
the correct order for their dives.
